Seward Scholarship
Seward Scholarships are annual, merit-based grants given to individuals who demonstrate scholarly achievement, leadership, and significant contributions to their chapter and the community at their college or university. These scholarships was named in honor of their original benefactor, Clarence A. Seward (Geneva 1848), who understood that literary tradition is a treasure worth sharing.
These scholarships are presented to initiated undergraduates who will be full-time students for part or all of the next academic year, and are up to $1000 per undergraduate selected.
Undergraduate members selected for the Seward Scholarship excel not just in academia, but also in our values as siblings of the Alpha Delta Phi Society. These members are proactive in supporting their chapter and their siblings, as well as their larger community.
Applications are released early in the spring semester, and due in early July.
Literary Competition
Every year, undergraduates and alumni from both the Alpha Delta Phi Fraternity and the Alpha Delta Phi Society are invited to submit original literary composition in categories including fiction, nonfiction, poetry, STEM writing, visual art, music, film, and photography. Winners are announced at each organization’s annual Convention.
Undergraduates compete for cash prizes, with one overall winner receiving The Daniel Pearl Memorial Prize for Literature. This cash prize of $1,000 is named in honor of Daniel Pearl (Stanford 1985), who was executed by terrorists while reporting from Pakistan for the Wall Street Journal in 2002.
Alumni compete separately, with winners getting donations made in their name to the literary, arts, or educational charity of their choice.
